MSSF Meetings
On the third Tuesday of each month from September thru May, the Mycological Society of San Francisco has a General Meeting at the Randall Museum.
The highlight of each meeting is a speaker with slides on some aspect of mycology and mushrooming: ecology, taxonomy, mycophagy, sociology, etc. Before each meeting members bring collections which are put on display and identified. Refreshments are served before the meeting.
- Doors open and identification starts at 6 pm.
- Announcements begin at 7 pm, followed by the presentation.
- The December meeting is replaced by a dinner at a different location.
- Note: General Meetings are open to the public.
- If a meeting is expected to be so popular that attendance would exceed room capacity in the Randall Museum Theater, reserved seating is instituted and there may be an admission fee for non-members.

- Talk Title: Exploring the Unknown: Cryptic Mushroom Diversity In Your Backyard
- California has an extremely diverse 'mycoflora', with over 4,000 species of macro fungi documented. Modern taxonomical tools have shown that this is just the tip of the iceberg. This talk will highlight some of the recent discoveries, and how you can help move mycology forward.

Biography:
Noah’s field mycology skills are extensive – he has spent over three decades seeking, photographing, identifying, and furthering his knowledge about all aspects of macrofungi. He has hunted for mushrooms throughout the United States and Canada, as well as on multiple expeditions to New Zealand and Australia and Cameroon. He is one of the premier mushroom photographers in the nation, having won numerous awards from the North American Mycological Association (NAMA) photography contest. His technique and attention to detail are unrivaled, arising from a philosophy of maximizing utility for identification purposes while maintaining a high degree of aesthetic appeal. His photographs have appeared on the covers and have been featured in articles of multiple issues of FUNGI Magazine, the primary mushroom enthusiast magazines in the United States, numerous mushroom books, as well as many club publications. He authored, along with Christian Schwarz, Mushrooms of the Redwood Coast, a Comprehensive Guide to the Fungi of Coastal Northern California and A field Guide to the Rare Fungi of California's National Forests. He is currently working on Mushrooms of Cascaida, a Comprehensive Guide to Fungi of the Pacific Northwest. Noah travels and lectures extensively across America, following the mushrooms from coast to coast, and everywhere in between.
